The Simple Pleasures in Life

This was for a client of mine who wanted cupcakes for one of dearest friend’s birthday. It was a very simple request of one dozen cupcakes with chocolate and lemon flavour and the important part of the order…….nothing too girlish or pink!

I decided to frost the cupcakes with chocolate buttercream and an army green lemon buttercream finished off with pearl dragees on top. They had  also requested for a tier to display the cupcakes and so I made my own tier once again with an 8 Inch and 6 inch cake circle with pretty wrapping paper.

I know they said nothing girly but I couldn’t help but throw in a pretty greeting topper and a pink polka dot candle! Seraphina’s always needs a touch of girly. 😉

Happy Birthday once again Sisca! xx

Double the Fun!

I had a last minute order from a client over the weekend for a pair of twins. After perusing my blog, the twins and their mother finally decided on an 8 inch chocolate cake for their birthday. I remember being twelve and anything chocolate was a plus in my books!

I made my usual chocolate cake recipe in two layers and frosted it with chocolate buttercream in between and in a star tip design and finished off with my own customized toppers. This cake was so simple and chic and perfectly fitting for twelve year old twins. 🙂

Happy Birthday Nived and Tiana! xx

Thank You, With Love

I always love cupcakes in a box. Its chic and elegant and can convey a beautiful message. My client wanted to give her colleagues a thank you gift before she embarked on an overseas trip to pursue her masters degree.

Her only request was thank you toppers and a mix of chocolate and red velvet cupcakes. Simplicity is always the best. 🙂

I made my usual chocolate cupcakes frosted with chocolate buttercream and red velvet cupcakes frosted with cream cheese frosting. Again, the toppers were hand made by me. Stay tuned for more of my diy crafts!

Happy Birthday Sathish!

So two weekends ago was my very dear friend Sathish’s birthday. He had been hinting about trying one of my cakes and since his birthday was coming up I decided to make him a ‘manly’ birthday cake. If you have noticed, all my cakes have a very girly and chic element to it and since he is a pilot with SQ so I don’t think he would want ruffles or bright colours for his cake. 😉

I decided to go with a simple 6 inch two layered red velvet cake decorated with chocolate buttercream. I used a star shape tip and basically piped buttercream stars all around the cake and completed it with home made flag toppers. The result came out surprisingly beautiful and effortless. Sathish’s first reaction was ‘how manly!’. I nailed it to a tee!

A toast of good health with pink ruffles

This was a very special request and one I was more then happy to make. My client’s mum had just recovered from cancer and they wanted to celebrate her good health with dinner and cake. I decided on a pink ombre cake with neopolitan flavours on the inside, a bright and cheerful cake to happy news. 🙂

Instead of vanilla, I used lemon together with the strawberry and chocolate flavours. The 6 inch layers was frosted with chocolate and strawberry buttercream and the outside was frosted with lemon buttercream in pink ombre ruffles. I finished it off with a pretty buttercream flower and white sugar sprinkles.

According to the client, her mum was very happy and enjoyed the cake immensely especially when she is not a big fan of cake. Here’s a toast to your good health aunty! xx

Lil’ Mini Minions

A special little boy requested minion cupcakes and his wish was my command!

The cupcakes were combined flavors of chocolate and chocolate buttercream, lemon with lemon buttercream, and red velvet with cream cheese frosting. The look was finished of with hand made toppers (yes I have found another obsession..diy craft!).

Blue, Ruffles and a Baby Shower!

This was my first baby shower and I was super excited to make this cake. My friend left the design up to me and the only requests he had was a baby carriage topper, blue frosting and a ‘surprise’ inside cake.

I decided to make a 4 layered 8 inch checkered cake of lemon and chocolate. Now a checkered cake is very easy to make and not as tedious however you need a gentle touch and partially frozen cake to make it successful.

I frosted the layers with cream cheese frosting and for the outside I used a lemon buttercream frosting to create blue ombre ruffles. The cake was completed with a dusting of white sugar sprinkles on the top and the carriage topper. Now I’m not the biggest fan of fondant but I have to say I was very proud of this topper which I learned off a video tutorial.

Cupcakes were also requested as a thank you gift so I quickly whipped up some red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting topped with rainbow sprinkles and toppers.

Congratulations Su Ann and hubs on your baby boy Isaac! Now I can’t wait to bake for his full moon celebration. 🙂 xx

Pretty Blue Ruffles

Now this was a cake I was very excited to work on. It was my friend’s birthday celebration over the weekend and her husband had requested a cake for 20 people. Instead of making a huge 10 inch or 8 inch cake I wanted to challenge myself and do something different.

I suggested a mini two tier cake with a two layered 6 inch cake and a three layered 4 inch cake frosted with ruffles. The only request the birthday girl had was Tiffany Blue so I incorporated this into my cake design. I made a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting in between the layers and vanilla buttercream frosting for the ruffles.

It was my first attempt at stacking cakes and my second attempt with ruffles. Honestly I was a bit nervous and after watching endless video cake tutorials online, I was confident I could complete the task. The cake stacking wasn’t too bad but I had to stay super focused on the ruffles (I had to kick my two inquisitive kids out of the kitchen so mummy could concentrate)!

I finished it off with pinwheels and a cake topper. The result was stunning and according to the birthday girl she was very happy. 🙂

Pretty Flowers in a Pot – Part 2

What a crazy weekend it has been! I hope all of you had a good mother’s day celebration. 🙂

My busy week started on Thursday with a few requests for flower pots. Like I mentioned in my previous post, I think a cupcake flower pot is sweet and elegant and when you see it up close it just says it all.

I never thought piping sunflowers, hydrangeas and daisies could be so therapeutic. 🙂

Have a good week ahead everyone!

Happy Birthday Hubs!

Now I couldn’t be more excited then baking for my husband! He is super picky and not a huge fan of cake and icing so I was all out to prove him wrong and make him love cake!

Since I had so much leftover chocolate butter cream from Dazza’s cake and didn’t want it to go to waste, I used it to frost hubby’s cake. I baked two thick 6 inch layers of red velvet cake and generously layered on the icing. This time I tried another icing technique which is the ridged look. I finished off the look by icing little chocolate dots around the bottom of the cake. I really love this because it looks simple and elegant and I am all about simplicity. It is absolute key!

Again I used banners because they are now so trendy and chic and I thought a 36 year old doesn’t need to read icing that says happy birthday!

I loved the result and what’s even better is hubby finished a fat slice of cake and until the last drop of icing. Success!!
